This feels like the absolute least that I can do. Iâm committing to do more, to continue to listen and to continue to learn, to act and to work. Iâm a therapist in the foster care system and I fear for the Black children and the Black parents I work with. I see the impact of systemic racism on their lives. I worry about the 6-year old boy I work with, who already experiences post-traumatic stress and who has already witnessed the impact of systemic racism on his parents. I worry about the 14-year old I work with and his interactions with police officers raised and trained to perceive him as a threat, rather than as a human being. Their lives matter.
